Some Directions for
Recovery.
1. Don't pick up! If your butt falls off we will teach you a new way to
sit!
2. Realize you can't do it alone. Your best thinking gets you in
trouble. Go to meetings and ask for help!
3. Sit up front. Sitting in the front builds confidence. You do want to
succeed!
4. Get phone numbers. People in recovery will be glad to hear from you.
Make sure you call and say your glad you met. Buy a phone book to keep
your numbers in, don't rely on a poor memory. Keep that phone book with
you at all times.
5. Make eye contact. Eye contact builds trust. You do want to be
believed!
6. Go early. The best seats are filled 15 minutes before the meeting
starts.
7. Stay late. Empty ashtrays. Sweep the floor. Put the books away.
Being of service to others it a primary principal.
8. Acquire literature. You can't read the Big Book if you don't have
one. If you can't afford one there may be some available on loan.
9. Get a sponsor. Don't get lost in the woods without a guide!
10. Find a Higher Power. The chapter to the Agnostic can be summed up
in three words: Change your mind!
11. Read literature daily. You can't read? Recovery materials are
available on cassette, video and in Braille! No excuses!
12. Have an ongoing conversation with your Higher Power. You talk to
your friend's daily, let Him be your friend, too. Trust in His wisdom
and guidance.
13. Be open-minded. You can be open to new ideas.
14. Talk to a recovering person daily. You just might help them be
sober today!
15. Try new suggestions. Doing the same thing gets the same results!
16. Work the steps; they aren't on the walls for decoration!
17. Change playmates and play pens. If everyone is eating pizza, you
probably will, too. Water seeks it's own level and you need to raise
yours!
18. Recognize that life is not fair. Fair comes in August.
19. Stick with the winners! You can tell them by the happy smiles.
20. Make the coffee. It helps build your confidence.
21. Be selfish about your recovery. Make sure to put yourself first!
22. Develop an attitude of gratitude. Focus on your blessings. Pass out
gratitude lists with your phone number.
23. Live a 24-hour plan. If that's too long, take life a minute at a
time.
24. Live and Let Live! Nothing pays off like restraint of tongue and
pen...
25. Find a hobby. Idle time it the Devils toy!
26. Exercise. A natural high won't get you busted!
27. Remember H.A.L.T. Don't get too hungry, angry, lonely or tired.
28. Air it out! You are only as sick as the secrets you keep.
29. Pamper yourself. Candle lit bubble baths are a simple luxury.
30. Spend time with supportive family members. The best amends is
allowing them time to see you sober!
31. Go to church. Visit His house and not the crack house!
32. Volunteer. Everyone can afford to give some time!
33. Learn the slogans. Find out was K.I.S.S. stands for.
34. Eat Right. Your body needs healthy food to repair itself!
35. Compliment others. To make friends you need to be a friend!
36. Go to a potluck meeting. This is a good type of pot!
37. Face the fear! Remember, that fear stands for false evidence
appearing real!
38. It's never too late to have a happy childhood...Fly a kite, blow
some bubbles, draw with crayons and watch cartoons!
39. Don't give up. Quitters don't recover!
40. Don't be a but...everything after "but" is bologna...
41. Speak up! It's a confidence-building vitamin!
42. Smile Big. Fake until you make it!
43. Go to a recovery dance, see how silly every one looks!
44. Walk fast. Achievers don't waste time dawdling.
45. Sing a happy tune. "Happy days are here again..." pretty soon they
will be...
46. Guard your thoughts. What you think determines how you act!
47. Think of the end results. Doing the same thing gets the same
results!
48. Embroider the Serenity Prayer. Give as gifts!
49. Improve your vocabulary. The Big Book is a good place to start!
50. Put a recovery bumper sticker on your car, your door, or on your
desk!
51. Make your next vacation a recovery convention it's more fun than
Disney Land!
52. Not all prisons have bars! You are a prisoner of your own mind. You
can be Happy, Joyous and Free!
53. Add to your self-worth. If you're not adding, you're subtracting...
54. Keep your token in your pocket. Look at it daily.
55. Ask yourself if you want to be right, or you want to be happy.
56. How important is it? If it's not going to be important next year,
it's not now!
57. Have a vision. A business without a goal doomed to failure.
