I, like a lot of alcoholic/addicts, seem to have a great ability to recall the 'Good old days'.

That was when I seemed to have a huge consumption for booze and drugs without too much ill effect....
That was when I seemed to be the heart and sole of the party....
That was when I seemed to be in control....

That type of thinking can easily blot out the memory of 'the bad old days'.

That was when I started to look like a back street wino or junkie....
That was when my family finally had the sense to leave me for their own safety and sanity....
That was when I had degenerated into a miserable shadow of my former self....

If ever you feel like you miss the 'Good old days' it might be a good idea to cast your mind back in an honest way to how it really was.
Have a 'nostalgic look' at those old photos of yourself that you've hidden away in the back of a drawer.
Or ask your friends or family to remind you of what it was really like back then.

Remember, If you ever forget your last drunk, you probably haven't had it....

Anguss.

Wow, thanks, Anguss!!

Reminded me of them telling me to look at the unglamorous side...I can't remember the exact words, rioght now...but, yes...to remember, for me, the hurt of the next morning...how I lost my kids, my home, my car...how I slept in the park, and so on...some of those coming to experiences...coming out of some of those blackouts.

It definitely got to where it was NOT fun, and I wasn't able to recapture the times that might have been kind of fun, early on.

I know they used to say to play the drink all the way through, too.

My first sponsor had me write out a first step, where I listed what happened when I took a drink, as many times as I could remember.

It was the first time I saw in black and white just exactly what happened, and it sure wasn't pretty.

Love,

Sam
