From One of The Meditations:

"'Once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic.' Commencing to drink after a period of sobriety, we are in a short time as bad as ever. If we are planning to stop drinking, there must be no reservation of any kind, nor any lurking notion that someday we will be immune to alcohol."

? 2001 AAWS, Inc., Fourth Edition; Alcoholics Anonymous, pg. 33

For me, I know that I will always be an alcoholic. My body processes alcohol differently from a normal, moderate drinker's.

In my body, a drink always sets up a craving for more of the same.

It doesn't matter how many years I have abstinent. It will always be that way.

It's never trite to remind us that, in fact, we are always alcoholics in remission. No matter what, my disease has turned out to be the greatest blessing of my life. Thanks for the reminder!
