Throughout life, people are constantly telling us what we can or cannot become and what we have or don't have.
It's just like they're sticking a label on us: too short, too slow, too old, too many mistakes, not talented enough. These labels are not what God says about us. If we don't know any better, we will wear them like they're the truth, and it limits what God wants to do in our lives. But understand, people don't determine our destiny; God does.
If you're going to rise to the next level and become everything God has created you to be, remove every label that is holding you back. You are not what people label you. You are what God labels you. God labels you, "chosen, forgiven, restored, redeemed, valuable, a masterpiece." When you remember what God says about you, those wrong labels will not be able to stick, and you will see God's victory in your life! :D

Don't do labels although they don't bother me, what is one more? Have had so many that I have lost count. They are only things we overcome or get along inspite of them. Life goes on whether they are there or not. They mean nothing when I live in the moment. They just are! Just as I am, one day at a time. I can't hide behind a label. I can't use it as an excuse for my addiction. The substance isn't the problem, it all begins with me.

I believe the source of most addition problems stem from living in the moment and a shallow attitude.
Labels along with inordinate dominance, destroy, admitted to or not, one way or the other.
The question then becomes when casually discounted, with no recognition or concern for another are we being helpful and setting a good example to follow?

Guess we have to agree to disagree. For me, there is no other way than to live in the moment. The attitude is up to the individual. Mine I had to turn over to my Higher Power. My labels have been a little a little harder to overcome. The ones you mention, I turn over to my Higher Power. I could wear one for PTSD, ADD, five types of arthritis, diabetes, anxiety disorder, chronic fatigue, pain, and sleep disorder.
When I live in the moment, I don't have to pick up, I can stay clean and sober. I can live in today, and although sometimes I can go into a Oh woe is me party, or have a little b*tch fest, or why is this happening to me belly ache, I have the tools to get out of where I am at, and take myself out of the negative into the positive.
For me, it is important to recognize and acknowledge what is. Then I can say the serenity prayer, decide what is mine and what is my God's.
I don't always find that my God will do for me what I can do for myself. Sometimes He does when I am not capable of doing and yet, all it takes from me is a little help, a point of surrender and say, "Thy will not mine." Sometimes I have a lesson to learn, an experience I need to work through, or an understanding of something that has happened so I can forgive myself or another, or an enlightenment I need for something that I am yet to go through or something I am to share with another.
To my way of thinking, there are no rules! There are no "Thou Shall Nots" but there are some "Darn well betters!" if I want to stay clean and sober.

When a spiritual concept is discussed I believe the main concept is for betterment in all affairs. Addictions though serious is not the only concept and problem to consider.
When we isolate the discussion to ourselves and label the concept, the discussion loses spontaneousness, and virtually the wind is taken out of the sail. To live the Spiritual Life I believe the first concept is not about me, but others, and how to best serve for growth.
The main mission is to give a lift up, not down, serenity is a private matter.
With that said, it's time to dust off my boots and move on.
