Dear Freinds,
For the past 18 months I have been commuting to a neighboring island on Monday mornings and returning home on Friday nights. I have been attending lots of meetings, working with other alcoholics, working on the problem with me. When I first started commuting, I accepted the position becauses I had been struggling with character defects and thoughts that I had not had since first getting sober.
I prayed for guidance and I prayed for change. I accepted the position seeing it as a door opening for me. On the island where I live, there is basic medical care, but anything serious needs to be taken care of in Hawaii or the Philippines, or the mainland US.
I started having medical issues in October of 2005. If I had remained on my home island, I would have kept putting off seeing a physician. But since I was on Guam, where seeing a DR. was easy, I went to see one and found out I had a problem with my arteries. I eventually had a coronary bypass in Manila and I am doing very well. During my stay in Manila, (I shared this in a previous post), I contacted the ward chaplain to get in touch with AA for a visit and was pleasently surprised when 3 alcoholics showed up in my hospital room. I eventually made it back to Saipan, continued to go to meetings, and in September I went back to work.
I learned this week that I will be heading back home, permanently and will get my old job back. I beleive that God answered my prayers and help me to get well both physically and spiritually. But that is just my belief. I believe that God answers prayer. I believe that if you put your life in God's hands, he will take care of you. He has taken care of me.
I have made many new friends and ii will miss them. But with the miracle of email, they will only be one message away.
