My primary job is a security guard at the UPS facility at Honolulu airport. I also do loss prevention security at all of the Safeway stores on the island of Oahu. I have run into at least 8 AA members. A woman of 75, whom I got sober with in the mid 80's blew my mind. We haven't seen each other in many many tears. We must of talked for over 20 mins. I invited her to the Waikiki Christmes Alkathon and she agreed. I will be helping to put on the huge Christmas lunch there. I ran into my good friend Ted, an expert at AA archives/history. I love this subject. My freind is retired Army and I am retired Air Force. We talked awhile and he introduced me to his beautiful and friendly girlfriend. It was a pleasure to have met her. She is also an AA member. Ted's wife had died a few years ago from cancer. He sure struggled back then. My heart broke when he would share his pain at meetings. I empathized because my dad died in 2002. He was the raging drunk, who I hated, even three years in sobriety. It took good sponsorship, the 12 steps, service, lots of AA meetings, Alanon/adult children of alcoholic meetings, and a good mental health doctor to get over the hatred/resentment towards my dad. My dided died of cancer and diabetes type II. He never made it into the rooms of AA. A month before he died, he told me he was proud of me and that he loved me. I was shocked and cried like a baby. I am grateful that he died making peace with his God. I have no complaints, life is good, despite the trials and tribulations at times... Edmund Kawai
