Welcome keri. If you want to stay sober, we alcoholics have found we could not do it alone. Try to get to a local AA meeting and do as they say. Good luck I'll pray for you.

Kari (not sure if I spelled your name right...not sure how to go "back" without falling in a dark hole...LOL)...I'm 47 years old. My DOS (again) is Nov.24th, 2006...I struggle every day to stay sober...face the challenges of life...and seek out those that understand...I understand what it feels like to want to talk. I went through TOUGH DT's this time around...at home. After the shaking subsided, I was left with the shame and mental anguish. I wonder what was worse...the DT's or the mental? At anyrate, I am sober today...if you want to get to know me...my email is: tammy.dill@yahoo.com. I live in Oregon.
Best wishes for a sober life.

Dear Kerii,
Welcome to the AASL site. This for me is a wonderful supplement to face to face AA meetings, but it is no substitute. If you are able to hook up with a meeting near your home, where you can see the smiling eyes and friendly faces of sobriety, that is so much better than just looking at a glowing screen. At least for me it is. And as a newcomer you are so important to those who have long term sobriety, because we need to keep the idea fresh in our minds that this disease IS cunning, baffling, powerful and that it does not get better only worse.
I look forward to watching your journey, even if it is only online for me.

Dear Senmora81,

When I came to for the last time, I knew I had a problem. After a few phone calls I was hooked up with someone in AA. She told me I would never have to drink again if I did not want to. At that point in life I knew nothing about one day at a time or anything about AA. I asked her how and she said "go to meetings." I have also learned over the years that going to meetings is just a part of being successful at staying sober. Meetings, Big Book, Sponsor, Steps help me to not drink today. Please try and hook up with AA in your neighborhood or region.

Hello, this is my first time to visit this web-site and i'm glad that I did. Meetings are a HUGE part of my life today. I've been around for about 8 yrs. and i'm only sober now for 17mo. 3 days. I wasn't ready for what this program had to offer me. I had heard the suggestions (get a sponsor, a big book, and a home group). It wasn't till I was really willing to go to any length to stop feeling the way that I did after my last drunk, that I was willing to use all of those suggestions. Not just use those suggestions, but use each one individually. Get a sponsor and use him, Get a Big Book and read it, Get a Home Group and get involved. I couldn't afford to just blend in anymore. I had to get involved. Thank you AA for being there for me when I was totally broken. 1 day @ a time God is peicing me together.

Hi Kari

I hope your first day sober was OK for you.

I remember my first sober day. I had try to take the easier softer way and it didn't work (thank god). My life was a mess, then I went to me 1st meeting of AA and things started to change, right their and then. I had fought a group of people how felt like me and seemed to have an answer.

They all said they were alcoholics and told me to keeping coming back, by the grace of god i did and that was a few days ago now. From my every first meeting, Ive always had someone to talk too, but not only that, people who understand me and who have been were I was too and cared enough too help me.

Kari I hope you get the help i did and stay around long enough to give it a chance. I don't know you but I can promise you.... your worth the best shot you can give this, if your anything like me, you have nothing to lose and a so much to gain from this.

Best of luck and God bless.
