Hi. John C was asking about meditation, and I thought it might be cool if people shared about how they do thier meditation part of thier program, so decided to start a topic and see what happens.

I know when I first approached the idea of doing this, I hadn't a clue...what do people do?

I kept asking people how they did thiers, and would try what they shared. And some of it ended up working for me, and some of it didn't, but, gosh, it was great to be able to try.

One of the things people suggested that I still use is the pages in the Big Book on pages 84-88.

I read something every morning that I would term as spiritual. It is usually a meditation. For a while I used another suggestion and would write out what spoke to me that morning, carry it with me, and look at it throughout the day.

I try to list things that I am grateful for and thank my Higher Power every morning.

I pray in the morning, and at night, and I personally count that as part of my step eleven, too.

How about you?

Hope you will share. just thought maybe the more ideas John has, the more things he can try and he'll find what works for him.

Thank you.

Sam

Like Samf, I read....

I do Sun Salutations and other yoga postures or vinyasas... this cleanses both body and mind. If I use my own music, it is quiet.. reflective.. if I use a tape or dvd to prompt my practice/postures and direct my 'form', then my end-of-session relaxation will be a visualization or music.

Most Sundays, I take one of the horses out, hoping to be alone with the horse, with nature, and with my Higher Power. I find God in the forests and fields, in the song of birds and insects... in the breezes and the flowers.

it's about 'mindfulness', I think... there is more 'out there' than the things we can see and touch.

hi Sam,great topic

Sam,I try and stick with the Book.
The AA way of life is what I try and live.I`ll have to post some Book quotes to make my point.

I believe steps 10-12 is my daily job. They flow together as one with time and effort.

First I try and see if I have a mess of some kind from yesterday to clean up.
If so,I hope I allready got it wrote down so I won`t forget.
Then I follow the instructions in the Book, pages 84-88

This thought brings us to Step Ten, which suggests
we continue to take personal inventory and continue
to set right any new mistakes as we go along. We
vigorously commenced this way of living as we
cleaned up the past. (ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, page 84)

Once I got that in my head, then I go on in the Book

Every day is a day when we must carry the
vision of God's will into all of our activities. "How
can I best serve Thee, Thy will (not mine) be done."These are thoughts which must go with us constantly.
(ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, page 85)

If we have carefully
followed directions, we have begun to sense the flow
of His Spirit into us. To some extent we have become
God-conscious. We have begun to develop this vital
sixth sense. (ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, page 85)

On awakening let us think about the twenty-four
hours ahead. We consider our plans for the day. Be-
fore we begin, we ask God to direct our thinking,
especially asking that it be divorced from self-pity,
dishonest or self-seeking motives. (ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, page 86)

In thinking about our day we may face indecision.
We may not be able to determine which course to
take. Here we ask God for inspiration, an intuitive
thought or a decision. We relax and take it easy. We
don't struggle. We are often surprised how the right
answers come after we have tried this for a while.
(ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, page 86)

Sam I try and get a "vision of God`s will" in my head most days before I shove off to work or where ever..

here is a example

how can I be a better AA?
How can I be a better husband?
How can I be a better father?
Whats God`s will for me in these areas of my life?
Then how does God want me to do it?

This helps me pratice AA in all my affairs,it`s a progress, not a perfection kind of thing.

Having had a spiritual awakening as the result
of these steps, we tried to carry this message to
alcoholics, and to practice these principles in all
our affairs. (ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, page 60)

It`s really simple and somewhat easy once you get the hang of it.The hard part comes when I try and do it in all my affairs.I fall far short

Later on in the day I sometimes read Daily Reflections or the 24 Hour A Day book..

hope this can help

tks have a good day :)
