This is Daily Reprieve for May 9 ..._______________________________________________ __THE DAILY REPRIEVE? ?

FROM GROUCH TO GENTLEMAN

?We cannot be helpful to all people, but at least God will show us how to take a kindly and tolerant view of each and every one.? - Alcoholics Anonymous, page 67

?Let your gentleness be evident to all.? - Philippians 4:5

For what it?s worth:? ? ? Coming on strong was my defense. I believed that being gentle revealed my weakness and insecurity ? both had to be hidden from all. That is how I was coming into Alcoholics Anonymous. But the winners I found there were not fooled by my front. They saw right through me to the frightened, little boy who was dying all alone behind the walls he had created. Their kind tolerance broke through those walls, teaching me by example how strong gentleness could be. And they showed me how the Twelve Steps created miracles. It is amazing to me when I realize how I have changed from a harsh, mistrusting, furious, ungrateful and miserable grouch into a kind, tolerant, and grateful gentleman. And it did not happen by the grace of Joe!

God bless you!______________________________________________ ___

Joe, if you are reading this ... THANK YOU ... I so relate.? I hid my non-existent self-esteem behind those same walls you talked about.? ?Today it is still easy for me to do that particularly when I'm struggling with living life on life's terms which has been an issue the past few days.? ?I don't like myself, nor do others, when I turn into that know-it-all dominating and demanding person that I'm so very capable of.? ? Being loving, kind and tolerant is far more rewarding.? ?I pray every day that God will show me the way "to take a kindly and tolerant view of each and every one.? -(Alcoholics Anonymous, page 67)? ?The 11th step prayer is a perfect guideline to help me be the person I believe God wants me to be.

A true transfomation and one desired by all. Most alcoholics - including me - share the internal pain caused by the emotional immaturity referenced here.

From Proverbs:

16 A fool shows his annoyance at once,
but a prudent man overlooks an insult.

17 A truthful witness gives honest testimony,
but a false witness tells lies.

Healing comes from hearing the truth and applying it.
