Perhaps there is a better way -- we think so. For we are now on a different basis of trusting and relying upon God. We trust infinite God rather than our finite selves. We are in the world to play the role He assigns. Just to the extent that we do as we think He would have us, and humbly rely on Him, does He enable us to match calamity with serenity .

From the Big Book discussion on Step 4 and the topic at my morning meeting ... another one of those meetings that I didn't want to be at but pushed my backside out the door ... when I do that I ALWAYS hear exactly what I'm supposed to hear ...
When I first got to recovery, and for a considerable time after I was here, although I believed in God, I had a great deal of trouble accepting and trusting an infiite God.? Nor could I understand "match calamity with serenity" ... What I can tell you today is that since getting sober, I have had a good deal of calamity in my life; however, I can also tell you that when I at least try to do God's Will, I am filled with calmness and serenity.? ?Twenty-four hours a day?? Of course not.? ?But when I find myself straying from that calmness and serenity, I can start my day over and ask God to show me His will.? ?
I so love the idea of being able to start my day over, any time I want to! Thank you, Carol! :)
Infinite God...rather than myself, really...I rely on me, I fail a lot. I trust God...things always seem to work out...even when I am fearful and quaking.
Sometimes my biggest deal is trying to just do the next thing, and trust my Higher Power.
And the role He assigns....
I end up thnking that today this is God's will for me...this day. Whatever is in front of me to do, I do.
I'm grateful I woke up sober!
