The very high and the very low emotional states you are describing are classic detoxing symptoms. These feelings are normal - painful and very difficult - but normal. Things will get better provided you don't use. Stop resisting and try to relax. Try not to be alone and thats where AA comes in. Uninformed, well meaning friends or relatives who don't understand the symptoms during withdrawal can be fatal to the recoveree, but sober AA's know the drill and can often help where no one else can - even some doctors!
So call AA, they're in you're local phone book. If you're serious about getting sober they will go out of their way to help and you stand a much better chance of getting and staying sober than you will on your own.... Make that call.
Anguss.
I'm having trouble with the mental aspects of quitting, but quitting was easy. Most people that don't drink don't understand what demons we have to deal with. 3 months sober, without ONE drink, and I have poor self-confidence and bad thoughts.....Good luck....
Hi, H2o! It gets better! Really helped me, as I went along, reading the Big Book, having a sponsor...taking the steps. I didn't know it would, but it did. Meetings really saved my bacon, more times than I can count!
My bad thoughts diminished, over time...and I felt better about myself, in time, too.
Hope that somehow, that is an encouragement to you.
Hope, too, that if you have any questions or concerns we can help with, somehow, that you will hollar.
