"Feelings often have little to do with facts".
That's what my old sponsor told me when I told him I felt stupid, worthless and different.
In fact, I didn't drink because I was stupid, I drank because I was bright. Alcohol worked for me. It made me feel well. It relieved the fear and the tension that had become a part of me that I never realised it was there untill alcohol took it away.
If something worked for me then I would continue to use it and alcohol worked for me. It was the cure for the way I felt but unfortunately - the cure became worse than the cause.
So, if ever you become gripped with fear or experience the feeling of loneliness, isolation and low self worth, call another AA or get out to a meeting and share those feelings with other alcoholics because 'feelings often have little to do with facts'.... ;)
God help us all,
